Project: Movino

September 2006 - March 2007

Movino allows you to use your camera phone in a new fashion. You can capture live video and send it over whatever uplink you have available (Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G or WLAN) with the final destination being either an embedded player on your website or a Skype-compatible video Quicktime component for your Mac. Movino was developed as part of a project course at Åbo Akademi University, autumn 2006 - spring 2007.

There is a Symbian S60 version for hi-end Nokia handsets and a Java version with potential to work on a large variety of devices. When streaming video to a computer over bluetooth, a Mac with OS X is required. The video server part also runs on linux based machines.

The project is Open Source (part GPL, part LGPL). Visit movino.org to learn more.

The runner-ups are Jaiku and Fring.

Movino.org has a new look

project:
Movino

Tonight I got something done that has been on my mind for half a year now; to freshen up the look of movino.org. Decided to go with the dark tone we used for the poster back when we worked with Movino as a University course project...

This is a step towards making it easier to grasp what Movino is and what it's not. Left to be done is to rework some of the texts and add illustrations.

Movino Web Interface 1.0

project:
Movino

The web related parts of the Movino project are finally released. This means we have an open source mobile+live video solution covering the complete chain mobile camera -> bearer -> web.
Perferct for someone who likes to start up a live+mobile YouTube clone (or more precisely, a Stickam or Ustream.tv without the cords).

Jump on over to the project page at Drupal.org for more information.
